Success!

October 28, 2017

Their last race of the season was costume run – the Book It! 5k – where Jack Garret, Emmett Roberts and Tyrone Stevenson participated. Emmett pulled off an incredible Joe Dirt. Maggie Bill went as a human-sized whoopie cushion, John Crawley went as … a marathon runner and Rita Fanning went as a raccoon. Jack even placed in his age group!

July 13, 2017

Such an exciting day. We left the Community Kitchen and headed out for the long ride that signified the end of the road for five of our riders. Katrina, Terry, Jack, Douglas and Kenneth all graduated from the On My Own 2 Wheels program. Each had completed the safety course and number of rides to leave that day with his or her bike, helmet, lock, shirt and graduation certificate.

Channel 3’s Tim Pham followed along the route with our riders and even stayed for our celebratory lunch at 1885 in St. Elmo. A big thank you to Miguel Morales and the 1885 staff for superb service and meals on them!

June 17, 2017: Gainesville Freedom Fun 5K and 10K

Jerry Clifton and the the Board of the Rainesville Freedom Fun 5k and 10k down in Rainesville, AL have embraced On My Own 2 Feet and Wheels. They presented our program with a check for $1000 after the race. Our run crew included Tyrone, Terry, and Jack, all who had great races. Jerry and Co. gave us gift cards for free lunch at Zaxby’s, free race entries, shirts, race bags and tons and tons of much needed socks. We can’t say thank you enough.

How wonderful to have a race support our program and give so generously? Besides their wonderful support, it was a terrific race. There were over 800 people there with runners coming in from all over the country trying to win the overall cash prize of $600.

Another incredible surprise came from Fleet Feet Birmingham who donated 20 brand new pairs of running shoes to be given to graduates of our program. Thank you, Fleet Feet Birmingham!!

August 25, 2016

Our first group got their new kicks, had their first trail run and munched on some local grub on August 25, 2016. A shout out to Front Runner Athletics and Mojo Burrito for their generosity!

September 3, 2016

And yet more success! Our first group of runners completed (and rocked, might we add) their first 5k on September 3, 2016, at the FCA Race. Results can be found here. Our runners included: Jeffery Dyar, Ben Markum, Lorenzo Howard and Tyrone Stevenson. Jeffrey even won a third place award!

A second group outing to the Riverpark extension was taken in late September leading up to the group’s second 5k!
